SPOTLIGHT ON SOME OF OUR LINEUP...

THE IAN FOURCANDLES EXPERIENCE

"The Ian Fourcandles experience is an ad hoc ensemble, that on this occasion will play an improvised set of electronics and voices. Expect angry loveliness."

AKA Ian Moss, another unsung iconic figure of the Manchester punk scene, will be opening SHYFEST II in a naturally fitting tribute to his dear friend Steve Shy. If you don't already know, he's the writer of some dead good books on music, with a trilogy covering the '70s, '80s, and '90s, and will likely be selling them there for you adorned with his autograph, should one desire.
Get down early doors to witness this latest incarnation of the man who simply cannot retire!

THICK RICHARD

"By 2024 Thick Richard will have been pursuing this ridiculous career path for 25 years. His cynical, lyrical, jet-black humour, intelligent wordplay, well-crafted verse, and occasionally acerbic, well-targeted comic attacks have earned him much respect from artists and audiences from Edinburgh to Glastonbury.
He has supported acts including; Kate Tempest, The Fall, The Lovely Eggs, The Courteeners, Jerry Sadowitz, Alibaster Deplume, John Hegley, Arthur Smith and Frank Sidebottom. Thick Richard has been heard many times on BBC radio, including presenting and writing BBC 6 Music's Beat of the Day and performed live on the channel for National Poetry Day.
"I like a bit of fun, but this is ridiculous... Stu-fucking-pendous!" Dr. John Cooper Clarke (Poet)"

CONCRETE CLUB

"Concrete Club were formed at the end of 2022. Since this time the band have already completed a UK tour, headlined multiple raucous sold out shows and perfected their energetic, in-your-face live sound.

Concrete Club are hard to pigeonhole into a specific sound. Drawing on all walks of musical life, they like to experiment with the parameters of indie rock and pop. Moving away from the Manchester indie sound of previous years, while still tipping their cap their influences, Concrete club write songs that reimagine the mundanities of life, the pursuit of a better world and the joys of slumming it while chasing down a dream.

The Concrete Club hype is building quickly, with the band receiving plaudits from music giants, including lan Brown, Mani and Andy Dunlop.

The band have released two singles so far in 2024, to fantastic reception. They are busy working on their second EP, preceded by two more new singles. All of their new tunes are being accompanied by original and entertaining music videos. They already have an array of gigs lined up for the coming year with many more in the pipeline. Concrete Club in 2024 are impossible to ignore, so let yourself get lost in the latest revelation in Indie Rock.

Note: they are musicians. Not builders"

TUAREG

A very special last-minute addition to the lineup, we are excited to announce TUAREG!

"Tuareg is a two woman punky garage rock'n'roll band Carrie, Selina and their token male bass man Aziz Ibrahim formerly of The Stone Roses & Simply Red. Carrie Lawson (guitar/vocals) ex-Cold Water Swimmers, Weeds & Selina Clements Woolnough Ex Cold Water Swimmers (drums) make a statement to the world that charisma & attitude never dies even if the music industry writes women off over the age of 25. Tuareg are on Spotify. Search singles - Lorelei & Dirty Jeans."

NAOMI KALU

Naomi is a 20-year-old singer-songwriter who has been creating, playing, and performing music since the age of 14. Along the way, she has collaborated with other artists, groups, and organizations such as Sheba Arts, Commonword, and Expression Manchester. She has played at multiple venues and festivals in the region, including a recent headline gig at Band On the Wall. Naomi has had annual performances at Sheba Arts Festivals from 2021 to 2024, as well as jam sessions at NIAMOS Radical Arts Center, Jam Street, and other bars and locations across Greater Manchester.
Naomi Kalu takes inspiration from a plethora of artists, from Tracy Chapman to Frank Ocean, playing both acoustically and electrically, with a love for lyricism and imagery.
Next up, we're lucky to have her doing a solo gig at SHYFEST II!

SCOURING PAD

"Scouring Pad is a brand new punky electronic solo project from Mark Corrin, who has recently featured on Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone on BBC 6 Music. Expect short, catchy, dark comedy songs about everything from washing up to gentrification and shrinkflation. Fans of The Fall, Sleaford Mods and general silliness should be entertained..."

BROTHERS OF PROGRESS

The “Brothers Of Progress” are on a mission to share their energy and message through music. From  James brown and Bob Marley and the Wailers to King Crimson they have a wide range of influence resulting in a truly unique sound.

DJINN DHARMA

Welcoming back a popular 'Stroke Club' regular (Jim "don't be shit" Adama - as per Ste's words!), with his latest twist, and maybe a possible collab with Dirty North's Dave Cookson? Hmmm... anything could happen!

"Expect a blues, jazz, and soul-infused set of original songs from an odd androgynous man with a loud voice and gold guitar."

DIRTY DAVE

Wythenshawe's Dave Cookson of Dirty North is back with a surprise set that we are really excited about! A huge favourite back in the day, even supporting The Stone Roses for their immense Heaton Park comeback in 2012, Dave made an absolutely phenomenal appearance with MHB at Ste's tribute event in 2022 - watch it here!

Expect surprise collabs and a pure punk jam finale. NOT to be missed!

NOKU

"Noku combines Pascal Makonese's piano and vocals, with Lucy Power's flute. The duo will be playing Pascal's original jazz compositions."

MISS AIREDALE

"Miss Airedale, singer and songwriter from sentimentalists, presents lyrical songs of melancholia, dark humour and gentle defiance.
Mark Radcliffe (BBC radio) described sentimentalists as “truly marvellous”.
Mark Coles (BBC Radio) said “miserable…. in a beautiful way”.
"Special, funny, just gorgeous" said Rozina Breen, BBC Radio Leeds.
Miss Airedale will be accompanied by the marvellous Ian Whitehead on guitar."
